The World Games Chengdu 2025 kick off in less than three days, and World Skate will showcase three disciplines: inline speed skating, inline hockey, and inline freestyle. This event, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee -IOC-, brings together 34 non-Olympic sports every four years and attracts over 200 athletes from more than 30 countries.
World Skate will take part with an international delegation competing in disciplines that combine speed, strategy, and technical expression. These events follow a set schedule across various sports venues in Chengdu.
From short sprints to long-distance racing
Inline speed skating has been part of The World Games since 1981 and will take place from August 12 to 15. The competition is divided into road and track events. Road races will be held on August 12 and 13, featuring One Lap sprints, 10KM Point Race, 100M Sprint, and the 15KM Elimination Race. Track events are set for August 14 and 15 and include the 200M Dual Time Trial, 500M Sprint, 5KM Point Race, 1000M Sprint, and the 10000M Elimination Race.
This wide range of formats and distances spans from explosive short sprints to demanding endurance races on wheels.
The inline hockey tournament will take place from August 7 to 11 and will feature eight teams: Czechia, France, Namibia, Chinese Taipei, the United States, China, Italy, and Argentina. The group stage will be played from August 7 to 9, followed by knockout rounds, with the final scheduled for August 11 at 7:00 PM. The tournament brings together national teams from four continents and follows a format that combines group play with elimination rounds, offering a dynamic progression to the gold medal match.
Inline freestyle makes its debut
Inline freestyle will make its first-ever appearance at The World Games, with competitions scheduled for August 16 and 17. The featured events are Speed Slalom on the 16th and Classic Slalom on the 17th, with separate categories for men and women.
The debut comes at a key moment for the discipline in China, a country that has seen significant growth in participation and competitive level in recent years.
A global presence on wheels
The three World Skate disciplines featured in Chengdu bring together over 200 athletes from more than 30 countries. The organisation highlights the international diversity of its competitions, which have been part of The World Games’ official calendar since 1924.
