Protecting sporting integrity has become one of the biggest challenges facing international sports organizations. Beyond ensuring transparency in competitions, governing bodies are working to create environments where players, coaches, referees, and administrators can carry out their roles with the confidence that any inappropriate conduct will be addressed safely and responsibly. In this context, FIBA has taken another step forward with the launch of Speak Up, a confidential reporting platform designed to strengthen prevention and oversight mechanisms across basketball.
The initiative responds to a growing need in modern sport: providing accessible channels for reporting situations that may compromise the integrity of individuals or competitions. From potential misconduct and unethical behavior to safeguarding concerns, the new platform aims to ensure that anyone involved in the basketball community can raise concerns with confidentiality safeguards and through procedures established by the international governing body.
A secure channel to strengthen transparency in basketball
The FIBA Speak Up platform was created as a dedicated space for submitting reports responsibly and in good faith. It allows anyone connected to basketball to report situations requiring FIBA’s review while ensuring a confidential process from the very first contact. In addition to protecting the identity of whistleblowers where appropriate, the system includes a secure communication feature that enables follow-up between the person submitting the report and the case manager handling it.
Every report submitted through the platform will be reviewed in accordance with FIBA’s internal rules, policies, and procedures, ensuring that all cases are handled under established standards. The organization emphasized that Speak Up does not replace existing international reporting mechanisms, such as the International Olympic Committee Integrity and Compliance Hotline or the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reporting platform, but rather complements the broader framework for protecting sporting integrity.
A tool designed for the entire basketball community
FIBA has already begun working with its National Federations to promote the use of Speak Up among all stakeholders in the sport. The organization expects the platform to be used, when appropriate, by clubs, players, coaches, referees, administrators, and anyone involved in basketball, extending the reach of its safeguarding policies beyond international competitions.
The launch of the platform is also part of FIBA’s broader sustainability and innovation strategy, through which the organization has strengthened its governance and participant protection initiatives in recent years. The investment in Speak Up reflects FIBA’s commitment to fostering a culture where prevention, transparency, and shared responsibility are at the heart of the sport, ensuring that concerns can be raised and addressed through clear and confidential processes.
