The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport wants to address integrity issues before they occur and will launch its Sport Integrity Education Programme this Thursday, 27 August. The free initiative for AIMS and United Through Sports (UTS) members aims to train sports leaders and officials to identify and prevent some of the main threats currently affecting sport.
The approach is based on a simple idea: preventing an integrity breach is more effective than responding once it has already occurred. AIMS therefore presents the project as a direct investment in the people responsible for managing sports organisations and protecting their athletes. The programme is aimed particularly at decision-makers, administrators and management teams.
The training is structured around four key areas: corruption, doping, competition manipulation and safeguarding. The latter includes issues such as harassment, bullying and social media abuse, broadening the concept of integrity beyond threats traditionally associated with the outcome of a competition.
From theory to practical cases
The programme will feature a dedicated e-learning platform and combine practical and interactive education with case studies, factsheets, videos and other resources. The aim is for participants to subsequently apply this knowledge within their own federations and organisations, both to identify risks and establish prevention mechanisms.
The launch will take place on 27 August at 10:00 AM Lausanne time and will be led by AIMS President Stephan Fox, who will open the session. Fox will address the shared responsibility of sports organisations to protect athletes, their organisations and the fundamental values of sport.
AIMS Vice President Dr Julie Gabriel will also take part, focusing on the importance of education, shared responsibility and collaboration in strengthening integrity. Norbert Rubicsek, Director of CSCF – Sport Integrity Group, will then introduce the programme and explain how the platform works, from accessing its different resources to the process required to complete the training and obtain certification.
AIMS will fund access so that the training is free of charge for participating AIMS and UTS members. The investment is intended to provide those working within these organisations with practical tools to recognise risks and strengthen prevention, while helping to create safer structures for athletes that are better prepared to address potential threats to their integrity.
