The three cities will once again host the international rugby sevens circuit after featuring in the inaugural 2026 season, with the upcoming edition gaining particular significance as the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games draw closer.
The competition will begin on January 23–24 in Nairobi, Kenya, continue on February 20–21 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and conclude on February 27–28 in São Paulo, Brazil. Beyond the dates and venues, HSBC SVNS 2 forms part of the international structure that allows men’s and women’s teams to progress towards the sport’s leading tournaments and compete for a place among the world’s top rugby sevens nations.

The 2027 schedule will retain the three venues that featured in the circuit’s first edition, strengthening the presence of international rugby sevens in markets across Africa and South America. The action will begin at Talanta Sports Stadium in Nairobi on January 23–24. After a break of almost a month, the series will move to Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, where matches will take place on February 20–21, before concluding at Estadio Nicolau Alayon in São Paulo on February 27–28.
The return to these cities reflects World Rugby’s goal of expanding the sport’s international reach and strengthening its connection with new fan communities. Retaining the venues also allows organizers to build on the competition’s development and strengthen cooperation with the host unions. According to Sam Pinder, Managing Director of the World Rugby Sevens Series, the previous season demonstrated the importance of HSBC SVNS 2 as a competitive platform and an opportunity to bring international rugby sevens to passionate fans around the world.

The 2027 season will carry additional significance as the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games advances. Pinder highlighted that each stage becomes increasingly important as the Olympic event approaches and said World Rugby will work with the host unions and its partners to build on the series’ continued growth.
