Less than two years before the world turns its attention back to Los Angeles, the organizing committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games has taken another important step in preparing for the world’s biggest sporting event. Between July 21 and 24, the city welcomed hundreds of media representatives, broadcasters, and international sports organizations to share operational updates that will shape the coverage of Games expected to connect with billions of people around the globe.
The LA28 Global Press Briefing and the World Broadcasters Meeting served not only to present technical details related to competition production and broadcasting but also to strengthen coordination between the organizing committee, the Olympic Movement, and those responsible for telling the stories that will emerge from Los Angeles. At the same time, the National Olympic Committees participated in planning sessions focused on delegation preparation, reflecting how the organization is moving from the design phase into execution.
A planning strategy that puts the media at the heart of the Olympic experience
More than 250 international media representatives and communications professionals, including press officers from National Olympic Committees, National Paralympic Committees, and International Federations, attended the global press briefing organized by LA28. Throughout the sessions, they received updated information on the progress of the Games, venue operations, and the services that will be available to journalists and communications teams when the event begins in July 2028.
At the same time, nearly 270 participants attended the World Broadcasters Meeting, including more than 150 representatives from 44 broadcast rights holders. There, Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) presented its vision for the audiovisual coverage of the Games, projecting between 3,800 and 4,000 hours of competition and ceremony coverage. The meeting also reviewed the key operational milestones that must be achieved over the coming months to ensure a global broadcast production capable of bringing every Olympic moment to audiences across every continent.
Casey Wasserman, Chairperson and President of LA28, emphasized that bringing together the world’s press and broadcasters represents a major milestone on the road to 2028. According to him, these professionals will enable billions of people to experience the Olympic Games through their reporting, storytelling, and broadcasts, showcasing the spirit of Los Angeles to a new generation of sports fans.
Venue tours and coordination with the National Olympic Committees
The agenda also included tours of several of the key venues that will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Participants visited strategic locations such as the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), 2028 Stadium, the Main Press Centre (MPC), the Intuit Dome, the LA Memorial Coliseum, and the Los Angeles Convention Center, along with other venues that will play a vital role in both competition and event operations.
These visits provided firsthand insight into how the different competition, working, and accommodation zones for athletes, officials, media, and spectators will be integrated. Beyond the infrastructure itself, the tours demonstrated the level of coordination required to ensure that every part of the operation functions seamlessly throughout the Games.
As part of this broader preparation process, LA28 also hosted open house sessions for nearly 90 representatives from 45 National Olympic Committees. Over three days, delegates met with the organizing committee’s operational teams to review planning priorities, address logistical questions, and better understand the services that will be provided to teams and athletes. For Yiannis Exarco, CEO of OBS, the progress achieved reflects the collaborative work and ongoing coordination among all the organizations involved, a collective effort that is steadily transforming planning into concrete preparations for the return of the Olympic Games to Los Angeles from July 14 to 30, 2028, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 15 to 27.
