The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the WNBA, the NBA and Sport Singapore (SportSG) have announced the inaugural edition of the women’s Basketball Without Borders Next Up camp, which will take place in Singapore from November 18 to 21, 2026. The initiative will bring together 80 of the world’s top women’s basketball prospects from around the globe, aiming to develop young talent and expand opportunities for growth within the sport.

The event will feature players and coaches with experience in major international competitions, who will guide the young athletes through four days of training and competition. Confirmed participants include Ariel Atkins, Jordin Canada, Bridget Carleton, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner and Kristi Toliver, prominent figures who will share their technical knowledge and professional experience to enrich the participants’ learning, both on and off the court.

Basketball Without Borders Next Up to bring together 80 women’s basketball prospects

The Women’s BWB Next Up 2026 camp will feature a programme designed to develop different aspects of the game. Participants will take part in athletic testing, movement efficiency exercises, skill development stations, three-on-three competitions and five-on-five games. These activities will be complemented by life skills seminars, providing a comprehensive learning experience that supports the young players’ athletic and personal growth.

The presence of WNBA stars will give the next generation access to high-level competitive experience. Ariel Atkins, a 2019 WNBA champion and 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup champion; Jordin Canada, a two-time WNBA champion; Bridget Carleton, a member of the Canadian national team; Chelsea Gray, a four-time WNBA champion; Brittney Griner, a 2014 WNBA champion; and Kristi Toliver, currently an assistant coach with the Phoenix Mercury, will be among the mentors guiding the programme. Learning from professionals with experience in international basketball offers participants an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the demands and challenges of a sporting career.

FIBA and the WNBA strengthen youth development and basketball’s social impact

The initiative will also include activities designed to expand access to basketball and strengthen its ties with local communities. In collaboration with Sport Singapore, players and coaches will participate in a basketball clinic for 50 girls, as well as training sessions for coaches and referees. These activities aim to share knowledge, support those involved in the sport’s development and create new opportunities for more young people to get involved in basketball. Singapore will host a Basketball Without Borders event for the third time, following the BWB Asia editions held there in 2010 and 2025.

The launch of Women’s BWB Next Up coincides with the 25th anniversary of Basketball Without Borders, the global basketball development and community outreach programme led by the NBA and FIBA. The new format will feature two annual camps, one for boys and one for girls, bringing together 80 of the leading international prospects in each category from outside the United States. The top-performing players may be selected to participate in the BWB All-Star camps held in conjunction with NBA All-Star and WNBA All-Star events. Since 2001, the programme has reached more than 5,200 participants from 150 countries and territories, with 155 former participants going on to compete in the NBA or WNBA, connecting youth development with opportunities in professional basketball.
