This year is a busy one for Kudo, with a long list of world events that demonstrates the growth and evolution of this sport at an international level. In one month the European Championships will take place, from June 14 to 16. Days later, during the month of July, the European and Asian Kudo seminars will take place. In September the best of Kudo will do the same with other seminars in Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa. And in October the Kudo will live its highest point in the Pan American and Asian Championships, from 4 to 6 the first ones and from 18 to 20 the second ones.
WHAT DOES KUDO MEAN?
The DO form in martial arts is something very recurrent (karate-do, Aikido, judo…). This form means for all disciplines “a way of life”. KU, for its part, means three important philosophical concepts.
“Transience” – A view of life as transient and empty.
“Interdependence” – All things exist only because they depend on each other.
“Open-mindedness, impartiality, liberalism” – We can achieve everything if we try to do it seriously, separating ourselves from prejudices.
From KIF they explain that when we face various difficulties, we must face them positively and never evade them without challenging them in order to obtain the ultimate and highest truth.
THE PURPOSE OF THE KIF
The International Kudo Federation (KIF) aims to develop and promote Kudo, to transmit its values, to fulfill a social purpose of education and to be a competitive sport. To achieve all these objectives the Federation carries out different activities such as the promotion of education, culture and sport as well as advising and assisting organizations that carry out the activities mentioned above.
In addition, the KIF is also in charge of teaching and training Kudo, organizing the Championships or conducting the qualifying exams as well as certifying trainers.
Hideaki Takahashi, head of the International Kudo Federation noted in a recent letter to all its affiliates that “through these efforts, we are further strengthening our position as a sport for life.”
SEEKING OLYMPIC APPROVAL
Since the exit of the COVID 19 pandemic, from the KIF they have proposed to increase the number of countries that are members of the KIF itself in addition to seeking approval from the National Olympic Committee, the National Sports Authority of each country and to obtain membership in the Globel Association of International Sports Federations and the International World Games Association.
New actions will also be created, such as the approval of a new committee called “Kudo for All Committee”, composed of three subcommittees, in charge of youth, gender equality and inclusion of people with disabilities.
