The International Esports Federation -IESF- has appointed Alex Alguacil as the new acting president of the IESF Athletes Committee. The Spaniard, an active member of the committee since 2022, will take up the role following the resignation of Tiffany Lim, who had led the body for the past five years and completed two terms as president.
The appointment places athlete representation within the IESF in the hands of a figure with experience across several areas of the competitive ecosystem. Alguacil began his career as a professional player, later expanded his activity into broadcasting and casting, and remains linked to the eFootball environment, a combination that gives him direct insight into the needs and challenges faced by esports athletes at different levels.
A career linked to players and the competitive ecosystem
Alguacil comes from the sports video game scene and built much of his career in Pro Evolution Soccer and eFootball. He was 3v3 world champion and 1v1 world runner-up in PES 2018, as well as competing within professional structures linked to football clubs. In the eFootball Championship Pro, he represented FC Bayern München for three seasons, won the competition in 2020 and was named MVP of the knockout stage.
His career also includes a spell at FC Barcelona, a club he returned to in 2023 after having already competed for the side in the 2018-2019 season. That experience with top-level clubs strengthens a profile that not only understands competition from the controller, but also the dynamics of professional teams, brands, calendars, public exposure and relationships with fan communities.
From competitor to voice of the sector
After the stage of his career most focused on competition, Alguacil expanded his activity into communication and management within the eFootball ecosystem, working as a project and brand manager and commentator for the eFootball esports series. Alguacil has been part of the Athletes Committee since 2022 and, during that period, has worked with other members and sector stakeholders to strengthen athlete representation within the international esports ecosystem. His appointment as acting president brings continuity within the committee itself and gives him a more visible role in dialogue with players, federations and decision-making bodies.
The IESF Athletes Committee has a consultative and representative role within the federation’s decision-making processes. Its work focuses on promoting fair play, athlete welfare, integrity, inclusion and the sustainable growth of esports worldwide. The IESF itself presents its committees as specialised bodies that contribute expertise and representation across different areas of governance.
The committee also seeks to strengthen communication between players and governing bodies, an increasingly relevant function in a sector where competitive calendars, participation conditions, mental health, career transition and athlete protection are part of the institutional agenda. In that context, Alguacil’s experience as a player, commentator and figure linked to eFootball projects brings a cross-cutting perspective on the competitive cycle.
The transition after five years of Tiffany Lim
Alguacil takes on the role after the departure of Tiffany Lim, whom the IESF thanked for her leadership, commitment and contribution to the esports community. The federation highlighted that her work was key to shaping the committee and advancing athlete representation within the international ecosystem.
The IESF wished Alguacil success in this new stage as acting president of the Athletes Committee, at a time when the federation continues to prioritise player participation in its structures, the improvement of the competitive environment and the creation of opportunities for future generations of esports athletes.
