FIBA held its annual assemblies by subzones on the American continent. First it was the turn of the Central American and Caribbean Confederation (CONCENCABA) in Aruba and then the South American Basketball Confederation (Consubasquet) in Uruguay. Both events were attended by the Secretary General of FIBA, Andreas Zagklis; the director of FIBA National Federations, Zoran Radovic; the president of FIBA Americas, Fabián Borro; and the executive director of FIBA Americas, Carlos Alves.
In the case of CONCENCABA, the topics to be discussed were the FIBA strategy for the period 2023-2027, ratification of competition calendars, a roadmap to the Olympic Games and continental competitions.
In addition, emphasis was placed on the next FIBA AmeriCup in 2025, which will take place in Managua, Nicaragua; and in the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup set for the end of 2023 in Puerto Rico.
THE INTEREST IN THE 3X3
3×3, in fact, is a discipline that FIBA Americas is interested in continuing to expand and that was also on the agenda of topics to be discussed at the Consubasquet assembly. In addition, the South American meeting addressed how to strengthen national federations, with concern about increasing competition in both men and women.
“South America is fundamental for the development of FIBA. We must align our strategies so that the nine National Federations work from a single development platform,” commented Fabián Borro from his position as president of FIBA Americas. “Consubasquet, with its tradition and knowledge, will bring a lot of strength to the development of our sport in the Americas,” the leader concluded.
