The 2025 FISU Winter World University Games – Torino continue their international promotion with the start of the torch relay. On September 20, the torch departed from Torino and, three days later, arrived in Brussels, where it was welcomed by Sabine Verheyen, Vice President of the European Parliament, as part of the European Week of Sport. This event, driven by the European Commission, aims to promote physical activity and sports within society.
The first stop of the international torch relay was organized in collaboration with the European University College Association (EucA), a partner of the Torino 2025 Organizing Committee in promoting university sports. Spanish hockey player Marina Gancedo was present during the ceremony. The torch relay will be divided into three phases: international, national, and the regional stage in Piedmont, with stops at university campuses and sites of cultural and tourist interest.

Meanwhile, in less than 300 days, the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin will host one of the world’s largest multisport events: the FISU Summer World University Games – Rhine-Ruhr 2025. The opening ceremony, to be held on July 16 at Duisburg’s Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, will feature musical star Ayliva, rapper Montez, and the WDR Funkhausorchester. Early bird tickets are already on sale with special prices available until November 15, 2024.

The event will span multiple high-quality venues in cities such as Duisburg, Essen, Bochum, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin, where 8,500 athletes and officials from up to 150 countries will compete in 18 sports. Olympic rhythmic gymnast and Games ambassador Margarita Kolosov praised the organization, emphasizing that the venues will ensure a top-notch experience for both athletes and fans.
With a mix of elite sports and musical performances, the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Summer World University Games promise to be one of the most exciting events of next summer, where everyone will enjoy two unforgettable weeks full of action and entertainment.
