The Czech Muaythai Association -CMTA- has strengthened its sports development model with a structure that combines national competition, national team preparation and the promotion of Olympic and cultural values. The federation, recognised as a member of the Czech Olympic Committee, continues to work on broadening grassroots participation, strengthening high performance and preparing its athletes for the international calendar of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations –IFMA-.
The competitive core of that model is the National Muaythai League, made up of nine rounds throughout the year and culminating in the Czech National Championships. The league gives clubs across the country a regular competition pathway and organises bouts according to IFMA’s official age and weight categories, allowing athletes to gain experience under criteria aligned with major international events.
A pathway towards international competition
CMTA also recently organised a national training camp in Lipno, bringing together junior and senior athletes from the Czech national team. The camp focused on technical and tactical preparation ahead of international events such as the Senior World Championships and the first IFMA School World Championships, scheduled to take place in Malaysia.
The federation’s work is not limited to sporting performance. The Czech association frames its development within Olympic values such as respect, excellence, friendship, discipline and fair play, and supports inclusive programmes for athletes of different ages and backgrounds in a safe and supportive environment.

Muaythai as sport and cultural heritage
The cultural dimension is also part of the project. CMTA promotes education, Wai Kru and cultural exchange activities as central elements of muaythai’s identity, understood not only as a combat sport, but also as cultural heritage and a vehicle for personal development.
“As a fully recognised member of the Czech Olympic Committee, the Czech Muaythai Association takes great pride in preparing our athletes not only for competition, but for life,” said Michal Novak, president of CMTA. Novak added that, through the National Muaythai League and national training camps, the federation builds “discipline, respect and resilience”, values that reflect IFMA’s mission and the Olympic spirit, and said that every round and every training session is a step towards ensuring that its athletes are ready to represent the Czech Republic on the world stage “with honour and excellence”.
