Former bobsleigh pilot and two-time Olympian, David Leuty, has been elected as the new president of Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS), succeeding Tara McNeill, who held the position for the past two years. Leuty’s election, announced from Calgary, marks a new phase for the federation, aiming to strengthen both its sporting and organizational leadership. At 64, Leuty steps into the role with extensive experience in high-performance sports and a solid track record in the business sector.
Leuty competed in the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo 1984 and Calgary 1988, representing Canada in bobsleigh. Now, his career takes a new direction as the leader of a federation that continues to develop Canada’s athletic talent. During his tenure, his primary mission will be to ensure that skeleton and bobsleigh athletes have the resources they need to reach their goals in a safe and competitive environment, as BCS Executive Director Kien Tran highlighted in a letter to athletes and stakeholders of the federation.

As a leader, David combines his vast knowledge of winter sports with key business and financial expertise essential for BCS’s development. According to Kien Tran, Leuty will bring the vision and leadership needed to address the challenges and opportunities that arise within a national sports organization. Leuty’s ability to lead change and generate creative solutions will be crucial in ensuring the success of Canadian athletes and coaches in international competitions.
With this appointment, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton aims to continue its mission of maintaining Canada as a global leader in winter sports, while Tara McNeill will remain on the Board of Directors as General Director, contributing to a smooth and effective leadership transition within the organization.
