Dubai is set to become the epicenter of sports medicine from October 24 to 27, as it hosts the 38th World Congress of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS). The National Olympic Committee of the United Arab Emirates (UAE NOC) has revealed details of the event, which will take place at the prestigious Dubai World Trade Center and feature over 130 international speakers.
This congress will bring together a wide range of professionals, including sports doctors, orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and psychologists, all committed to advancing the health and performance of athletes. Throughout the congress, 16 sessions, six workshops, and 304 research papers will be presented, with participation from over 70 countries. This not only highlights the importance of the event but also its ability to influence the evolution of sports medicine on a global scale.
Comprehensive Focus on Sports Medicine
Dr. Hashel Al-Tunaiji, President of the NOC Sports Medicine Committee, highlighted the scientific uniqueness of the congress during a recent press conference: “Each session is designed to address key issues affecting athletes’ health, offering a comprehensive perspective on the latest research and treatments,” he stated. The program includes critical topics such as medical care during marathons, biomechanics, pain management, and the science of physical performance.
The congress will kick off with a panel discussion focused on the future of sports medicine in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), addressing both current opportunities and challenges. Al-Tunaiji emphasized that this edition of the congress aims not only to educate but also to prepare attendees for the changes and demands facing the sector.
The event promises to offer participants a space to exchange ideas and experiences, as well as to establish valuable connections with other professionals in the field. The involvement of multiple collaborating organizations and globally recognized experts underscores the importance of the congress in the continuous improvement of sports medicine.
The International Federation of Sports Medicine, established in 1928, has been a pioneer in promoting the health of athletes worldwide. With the congress held every two years, FIMS reaffirms its commitment to innovation and research in the field, ensuring that advances in sports medicine continue to benefit athletes around the globe.
As the event approaches, the National Olympic Committee and its partners are excited about the contributions this congress will make to the development of sports medicine, not only in the United Arab Emirates but also internationally. The collaboration between the UAE NOC, the Emirates Physiotherapy Society, and the Emirates Society of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine highlights the joint effort to raise healthcare standards in sports.
