As part of its governance reform, the Federation of International Bandy (FIB) announced the results of the first-ever direct elections for its Athletes Committee. For the first time, the members were elected directly by the athletes who participated in the 2025 Bandy World Championships, including both Men’s Groups A and B and the Women’s tournament.
The elections were held in two phases during the two tournaments, and the combined results were announced at the 2025 FIB Congress, held in Lidköping, Sweden, during this year’s World Championships.
ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE ATHLETES COMMITTEE
The FIB Athletes Committee is composed of the following members:
- Gian Luca Beeler, Switzerland
- Jordan Braam, Netherlands
- Rebecca Draper, USA
- Sanna Gustafsson, Sweden
- Judith Waller, Great Britain
The Committee ensures representation of both genders and different Member Associations. The members will now elect the Chair and Vice Chair among themselves, ensuring the Committee’s full independence. The Chair will automatically become a full member of the FIB Executive Committee, representing athletes worldwide at the highest level.
FIRST INDUCTIONS INTO THE FIB HALL OF FAME
During the FIB Congress, the first inductions into the FIB Hall of Fame were also announced. The honorees, recognized for their outstanding contributions to the sport of bandy and the FIB, were:
- Erik Berner, Finland
- Arne Giving, Norway
- Bob Kojetin, USA
- Staffan Söderlund, Sweden
This recognition marks a milestone in FIB’s history, honoring key figures who have driven the development of bandy on an international scale.
FIB’S 70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
As part of its 70th anniversary, the FIB distributed a commemorative medal to all Member Associations participating in the Congress. This gesture symbolizes the unity and continuous growth of the sport.
FIB General Secretary Attila Adamfi expressed his satisfaction with the progress in governance and the global growth of bandy. “I am extremely proud and happy to see that while FIB is continuously improving its governance by providing direct representation to our athletes, the sport is also growing globally, with the first-ever participation of the German women’s team.”
