The stage is set for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025, following the official draw held last Saturday at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, Greece. This event marked the start of the countdown to the 40th edition of the most important competition in European women’s basketball, where the 16 participating teams met their opponents.
The national teams were divided into four groups of four, according to the seedings assigned based on the FIBA Women’s World Ranking, presented by Nike. This system ensures a competitive balance in the group stage, promising exciting matches right from the start of the tournament.
A CEREMONY WITH A LOT OF HISTORY
The ceremony was attended by basketball legends Dimitris Diamantidis and Sandrine Gruda, who assisted in the draw. Both are iconic figures of the FIBA EuroBasket and FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournaments, respectively. In addition, the event coincided with International Women’s Day, underscoring the importance of women’s basketball in the global sports landscape.
Notable attendees included figures such as Nikos Chardalias, Governor of the Region of Attica; Georgios Mavrotas, Secretary General of Sports of Greece; and Jorge Garbajosa, President of FIBA Europe. Delegations from the four co-host countries – Greece, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic – also participated.
