The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has called new elections for its Assembly and Presidency, this time in collaboration with FIFA and UEFA. At a board meeting held on Wednesday, it was resolved to turn to the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) to guide the process, seeking to avoid possible nullity by the Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte (TAD).

The current interim president of the RFEF, María Ángeles García Chaves ‘Yaye’, is presiding over this process after having had her candidacy revoked a few days ago by the aforementioned TAD. The next president will be elected by a new Assembly, not the current one that appointed Luis Rubiales, and the CSD will witness this together with its president –José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes-.

Wednesday’s meeting dealt with key points, such as the analysis of the RFEF’s legal situation and the preparation of the initial voters’ register. The Board also approved important agreements for the development of the elections.

The previous cancellation of the elections, which took place on 20 September, was a consequence of the need to elect a new Assembly before voting for the presidency, a step that the RFEF seeks to fulfil with the new call accompanied by FIFA and UEFA, the highest international representatives of football both in Europe and the world.
