The future of the Olympic Movement is being shaped through dialogue. This week, the president of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), Johan Eliasch, and secretary general Michel Vion took part in consultation meetings convened by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Kirsty Coventry in Lausanne. Under the “Ready for the Future” initiative, the gathering brought together leaders from all Winter and Summer Olympic Federations with the goal of charting a joint roadmap toward a more responsible, innovative, and sustainable sports model.

Beyond institutional protocols, the spirit of cooperation set the tone for the day. The discussions focused on how to strengthen the unity of the global sports movement, addressing contemporary challenges in sport with a shared vision. For FIS, its commitment to this process is not merely administrative but an opportunity to reaffirm its role in transforming the Olympic ecosystem, where sustainability and athlete well-being take center stage.

A dialogue to redefine the future of Olympism

The consultation cycle led by the IOC aims to go beyond technical planning and create spaces for reflection on the role of sport in contemporary society. In a global context where sustainability, inclusion, and innovation are imperatives, the meeting in Lausanne represents a turning point. For Eliasch, these conversations are the foundation of a collective commitment that transcends individual disciplines: it is about preserving the essence of Olympism and adapting it to the demands of today’s world.

FIS, one of the federations with the longest tradition within the Olympic movement, took on an active role in building joint solutions during this meeting. Its leadership in environmental, technological, and athlete development issues reinforces its vision of a future in which sport not only inspires but also drives real change. Eliasch emphasized that sport has the power to “unite the world through courage, excellence, and the Olympic spirit,” an idea that captures the human and transformative dimension of this collective effort.

Toward stronger collaboration between International Federations and the IOC

The meetings in Lausanne reinforced a clear message: the future of the Olympic Movement will depend on collaboration between the International Federations and the IOC. In this context, FIS reaffirmed its commitment to working hand in hand with other organizations to enhance the positive global impact of sport. This shared approach seeks to ensure the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the Games and competitions, promoting modern and responsible resource management.

IOC president Coventry emphasized that the purpose of the “Ready for the Future” initiative is to strengthen ties between federations and build a more inclusive and resilient model. Within this framework, FIS’s participation reflects a deep conviction: that Olympism can only thrive if it is nurtured by dialogue, innovation, and the commitment of all parties involved. The exchange of ideas in Lausanne not only envisions the future of sport but also its power to inspire unity in a constantly changing world.
