The torch-lighting ceremony for the 9th Asian Winter Games took place this Monday in Harbin, China. With just 18 days to go until the opening ceremony on February 7, both the physical torch relay and the innovative digital relay, designed to engage the international community in this great celebration of ice and snow sports, kicked off.
The organization, HAWGOC, noted that “the digital relay allows users from all over the world to participate as torchbearers without limitations of time or space. Through social networks, they can join this great sporting and cultural event.”
A UNIQUE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE
The digital relay runs under the slogan “Cool weather and warm hearts: create memories to last a lifetime.” The event’s website uses an icy blue aesthetic, accompanied by lilac details and fireworks to convey a festive atmosphere. In addition, friendly characters Binbin and Nini, the official mascots, appear in interactive animations that add to the fun experience.
To join the relay, users can visit the official Games profile on WeChat and access the “Digital Torch” button. Each participant will receive a unique certificate inspired by the Songhua River ice blocks, and can win exclusive prizes based on a randomly assigned certificate number.
