A few days ago, the Executive Committee of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) gave India the responsibility of organizing the upcoming FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup. This version of the tournament will have, for the first time, the participation of 24 teams and will take place in December 2025.
After this groundbreaking news about the number of members, FIH President Tayyab Ikram said: “I am very happy to have increased the number of teams participating in the FIH Junior Hockey World Cups and I look forward to seeing these 24 young teams, which They represent the future of our sport, next year. (…) I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Hockey India for their commitment to organizing another fantastic event.”
For his part, Dr. Dilip Tirkey, president of Hockey India, was grateful for the decision and was optimistic about the legacy that the tournament will leave: “We are delighted that the FIH has chosen India to host the Youth World Cup. of FIH Men’s Hockey 2025 (…) This prestigious tournament highlights the growing importance of India in international hockey and shows our dedication to developing the sport for future generations.”
To be eligible to participate, competitors must be under 21 years of age as of December 31 of the year prior to the tournament. Currently in first place in the youth world ranking is the current world champion of the category, Germany, in second place is the next host India and in third place is the South American power of this sport, Argentina.
