The International Olympic Academy (IOA) has proudly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), marking an important step towards global cooperation in the promotion of sport, education and the values of Olympism. This agreement seeks to strengthen collaboration in key areas, such as the promotion of sport, the protection of its integrity and the advancement of educational initiatives in the Islamic sports arena.
Both organizations are committed to creating opportunities that inspire and empower athletes, educators and sports professionals in Islamic countries. “This agreement represents a major step towards a more inclusive future in sport,” said Isidoros Kouvelos Kouvelos, president of the IOA. He further added: “We will work together to promote the universal values of Olympism and ensure that our members receive the best possible training.”
“A tool for union and development”
The collaboration will focus on the implementation of joint educational programs designed to improve the level of education and training of athletes, coaches and sports experts. By sharing resources and expertise, the IOA and ISSA seek to ensure the comprehensive development of sports professionals. “We want sport to be a tool for unity and development,” Kouvelos mentioned during the signing.
The agreement underscores the importance of protecting the integrity of sport, promoting sustainability, fair play, equality and inclusion of all athletes, regardless of their background. Joint educational initiatives will focus on combating doping, manipulation of results and violence, ensuring that the sporting community remains free from corruption and danger.
IOA President Isidoros Kouvelos traveled to Riyadh for the signing of the MoU together with IOA Director Dr. Makis Asimakopoulos and Head of NOA Relations Alexandra Karaiskou during the opening ceremony of the 3rd Saudi Games, Saudi Arabia’s largest national sporting event, which represents a platform for athletes and communities to participate in competitions in the spirit of fair play and unity that Olympism promotes.
