The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a statement regarding the situation of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), stating that it will not make a final decision on the amendments to the statutes or the committee’s elections until the pending legal challenges are resolved.

In a letter sent on 4 February 2025 to all NOC members, the IOC confirmed that it has carefully reviewed the current situation in response to the multiple communications received over the past weeks.

LEGAL CHALLENGES BEFORE A DECISION

The IOC acknowledged the position expressed by a significant number of members of the NOC General Assembly, but also noted that the committee’s elections have been subject to several legal disputes. For this reason, it has decided to wait until all judicial processes have been settled before determining the validity of the amendments to the statutes and the electoral process.

In this context, the IOC has made it clear that it will not interfere in the governance of the Nepal Olympic Committee while legal proceedings are ongoing.

A CALL FOR A JOINT SOLUTION

Despite the uncertainty, the IOC has made a call for the NOC of Nepal to seek a constructive and mutually agreed solution with all involved parties. It also emphasized the need for any resolution to be in line with the Olympic Charter and the Universal Principles of Good Governance within the Olympic Movement.

According to the statement, the goal is to ensure that the conflict is resolved swiftly and amicably, always prioritizing the interests of the Olympic Movement and Nepalese athletes.

THE FUTURE OF NEPAL’S NOC

The IOC has requested that the Nepal Olympic Committee keep international organizations informed of the next steps and any updates regarding the situation.
