Keith Joseph, current President of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), has announced his commitment to transform Panam Sports into a more unified and cohesive continental sporting body, if elected as president. His vision emphasizes using sport as a uniting force in the Americas, fostering collaboration and shared purpose across the region.
In a recent interview, Joseph highlighted the need to build “bridges of hope” for future generations through sport. He stated, “We can rise above the belief that we must be forever in conflict, examples of division.” His goal is to utilize sport as a platform to unite the region, focusing on the common strengths of the Americas.
Although Joseph comes from the Caribbean, a region known for smaller nations, he emphasized his extensive experience in sports administration. His involvement with national, regional, and international sports organizations, he believes, provides him with the necessary expertise to lead Panam Sports into a new era of unity and cooperation.
“Panam Sports requires the full commitment of all its members,” Joseph remarked. He noted the significance of having major countries like the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil actively involved, given their experience in hosting both the Pan American Games and the Olympics. Joseph views their participation as crucial for the organization’s transformative future.
MANY NATIONS AND CULTURES
Moreover, Joseph envisions an inclusive Panam Sports organization. He advocates for a staff that reflects the diversity of its membership, ensuring representation of the many nations and cultures within the Americas. He sees this inclusivity as key to fostering a sense of unity across the region.
If elected, Joseph is determined to steer Panam Sports towards a future built on collaboration and shared goals. His commitment to a more unified and inclusive organization reflects his belief in the power of sport to inspire and bring together the diverse nations of the Americas.
