The Olympic Council of Malaysia -OCM- has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, aimed at reinforcing sporting ties between the two national Olympic committees -NOC-. The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the OCM headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, during a five-day visit by a Hong Kong delegation as part of an international exchange programme.

The delegation was led by Kenneth Fok, Vice President of the Hong Kong NOC, who was welcomed by Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of the OCM, along with other Malaysian officials.

Cultural and sports exchange

In his remarks, Dr. Zakaria underlined the importance of the meeting and expressed gratitude to his Hong Kong counterparts. “This important step is a reflection of the trust, respect, and friendship extended to us, and we truly value and appreciate this gesture,” said the OCM President.

The visit formed part of a broader cultural and sporting exchange programme designed to foster closer ties between regional Olympic bodies, promoting values of cooperation and mutual understanding.

Youth focus and bilateral cooperation

For his part, Kenneth Fok stated: “I am optimistic that closer collaboration between our two NOCs will not only create greater opportunities for youth exchange but also foster stronger bilateral cooperation advancing the Olympic Movements in both organizations.”

The signed memorandum outlines joint initiatives focused on sports development, youth athlete training, and the promotion of Olympic culture across the region.

Celebrating athletes at the ceremony

The event was also attended by three renowned Malaysian athletes: Ang Li Peng, badminton gold medallist at the 2002 Commonwealth Games; Ng Oly Shu Wai, gymnast and silver medallist at the 2006 Asian Games; and Timmy Tan, tenpin bowler with two silver medals at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games.
