Mongolia is set to host one of Asia’s most important basketball events: the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2027. The tournament will take place from March 31 to April 4 in the heart of Ulaanbaatar, the country’s capital and a witness to the growing national enthusiasm for 3×3 basketball. This announcement by FIBA cements Mongolia’s status as one of the most vibrant and committed hubs for the discipline across the continent.

The new challenge comes after the resounding success of the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2025, where over 50,000 fans filled Sukhbaatar Square to support the local women’s team, which reached a historic final. The team was praised nationwide and received official recognition from President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, who honored the players as honorary athletes for their unforgettable performance.

A Decade of Growth and Commitment to 3×3

The return of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup to Mongolia, exactly ten years after the country hosted the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2017, reflects its ongoing commitment to the development of urban basketball. For Alex Sanchez, FIBA 3×3 Managing Director, choosing Ulaanbaatar is no coincidence: “the fans, the atmosphere, and the level of play make Mongolia the ideal host.” The country has proven its ability to handle top-level organizational and sporting challenges on the circuit.

Over the years, Mongolia has hosted major events such as the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2019, the U23 World Cup 2024, an annual stop of the Women’s Series, and several stages of the World Tour. All these tournaments have been marked by flawless organization and a passionate crowd, positioning the country as a 3×3 reference in Asia. The 2027 edition promises to be another celebration of talent, urban culture, and Mongolia’s deep passion for basketball.
