Mozambique has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality in sports by actively participating in the Gender Equality Forum held in Luanda, Angola, on November 13–14. This forum brought together representatives from 10 African countries to discuss progress and challenges related to gender inclusion in sports across Africa. Mozambique’s involvement highlights its determination to advance key issues such as equity and female representation in sports disciplines.
During the event, organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), various topics were addressed, including challenges facing women in sports, gender-based violence, and the promotion of human rights within the Olympic context. Mozambique’s active presence at this forum demonstrates the country’s commitment to strengthening its role as a leader in inclusion and equality in the region.
MOZAMBIQUE’S ROLE
Mozambique’s participation in the forum underscores its dedication to gender equality and inclusion in sports. Represented by two members of the Mozambique Olympic Committee (COM), the country showcased its efforts to promote equity and enhance female representation in sports activities. Additionally, the event provided a platform to discuss future initiatives aimed at strengthening Gender Equality Commissions among Zone VI member countries and advancing towards more inclusive and safer sports for all.
Mozambique emphasized the importance of fostering an environment where women have the same opportunities as men to participate in sports at both grassroots and professional levels. This commitment is also reflected in the nation’s policies, which aim to remove barriers and ensure women’s active participation in all sports sectors, from training to elite competition. With this approach, Mozambique positions itself as a model for gender equality in sports across Africa.
