The Association of National Olympic Committees –ANOC– joins National Olympic Committees in celebrating Olympic Day, a day dedicated to promoting sport and Olympic values. This year, the theme “Let’s Move +1” seeks to inspire people to get moving and invite someone else to join in physical activity.
Celebrated every June 23, Olympic Day brings together millions of people around the world through mass events and digital activations. The initiative not only encourages physical activity, but also highlights inspiring stories that reinforce the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
“Let’s Move +1”: an invitation to move together
Following the success of the “Let’s Move” theme in 2023, this year participants are encouraged to invite a “+1,” whether a friend, family member, or coworker, to walk, run, dance, or simply move together. The idea is simple but powerful: to multiply the impact of physical movement and promote social connection.
On social media, ANOC will highlight how some of Europe’s smaller NOCs, which recently participated in the Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra, are using Olympic Day to interact with their followers and encourage participation.
The importance of physical activity according to the WHO
The message of this Olympic Day takes on special relevance in light of alarming data from the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the organization, one in three adults and 81% of young people do not meet the minimum recommended levels of physical activity to maintain optimal health. These figures underscore the need for global initiatives such as this one.
In addition to in-person events, digital activations will allow people from all over the world to join in the celebration, regardless of their location. More than 150 NOCs, International Federations, and Olympic Games Organizing Committees will participate in the activities.
