The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, a group of legends who have left an indelible mark on the history of the sport. Among them are Spain’s Pau Gasol, the United States’ Dawn Staley, and iconic coach Mike Krzyzewski. This announcement comes at an exciting time for basketball as the sport continues to evolve and attract new generations of fans.

The nine honorees will be celebrated at a special ceremony on May 17, 2025, during the FIBA Mid-Term Congress in Bahrain. The list features eight players and one coach, each recognized for their outstanding individual contributions and global impact on basketball.

LEGENDS OF BASKETBALL

Pau Gasol was the driving force behind Spain’s most significant achievements in international basketball. His leadership and talent propelled the Spanish team to its first major title at the 2006 FIBA World Cup, where he was also named MVP. Additionally, Gasol is a five-time Olympian with three Olympic medals, and he led Spain to three EuroBasket titles, in addition to winning two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. Dawn Staley, meanwhile, left an unforgettable legacy as both a player and a coach. As a point guard for the U.S. national team, she won two FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cups and three Olympic gold medals, serving as the flag bearer at the Athens 2004 Opening Ceremony. As a coach, she guided Team USA to victories at the 2018 World Cup and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The legendary Mike Krzyzewski, known as “Coach K,” masterminded Team USA’s triumphant return to basketball dominance. He led the “Redeem Team” to Olympic gold in 2008 and continued to accumulate titles with two FIBA World Cups and two additional Olympic golds before stepping down from the national team in 2016 to focus on his historic NCAA career. This Class of 2025 also includes iconic players such as Andrew Bogut (Australia), Ticha Penicheiro (Portugal), Leonor Borrell (Cuba), Alphonse Bilé (Côte d’Ivoire), Fadi El Khatib (Lebanon), and Ratko Radovanovic (Serbia), each with an exemplary career that enriched basketball in their respective regions. Their legacy serves as a reminder of the global power of this sport.
