The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant will be the Chair of the Coordination Commission for the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. This new role follows his remarkable leadership as Chair of the Coordination Commission for the Paris 2024 Games, where his leadership and deep understanding of the French sports and governance system were key to the project’s success. Beckers-Vieujant has developed strong relationships with French authorities and sports organizations, which will be invaluable for the preparations of the French Alps 2030.

With an extensive background in sports administration, Beckers-Vieujant has held prominent roles, including serving as President of the Belgian National Olympic Committee (COIB) from 2004 to 2021. According to Bach, the combination of his previous experience with the Paris 2024 Games and the relationships he has built with institutions and sports leaders in France make him the ideal appointment to guide the preparations for the success of the French Alps 2030. This appointment comes at a critical time, following the presentation of the Games’ Execution Guarantee by the French government.

In addition to his sports career, Beckers-Vieujant has been a prominent executive in the business world, with a distinguished career at Delhaize Group, where he held top positions, including President and CEO from 1999 to 2013. His management skills have been recognized with multiple awards, including CEO of the Year in Belgium in 2008. These business credentials, combined with his passion for sports, have made him an integral figure in global sports administration.

With over five years until the start of the 2030 Winter Games, Beckers-Vieujant’s appointment marks an important milestone in the event’s planning. His leadership will be key in supporting the French partners in forming the Organizing Committee and ensuring that preparations advance according to IOC standards. As the next steps unfold, the remaining members of the Coordination Commission will be appointed, solidifying the team in charge of one of the world’s most important sporting events.
