Spyros Capralos was re-elected as president of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) for the next four years on Friday following elections held at the 54th EOC General Assembly in Frankfurt. Capralos, who has led the organization since 2021, will continue to head a renewed Executive Committee that will work on the development of European sport until 2029.
Alongside Capralos, Vice President Daina Gudzinevičiūtė and Treasurer Peter Mennel were also unanimously re-elected. In addition, Carlo Mornati, secretary general of the Italian National Olympic Committee, will take over as secretary general of the EOC, replacing Raffaele Pagnozzi, who is retiring after 19 years of service.
RENEWED AND EQUAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The new EOC Executive Committee will be composed of 12 members, with an equal representation of six women and six men. Re-elected members include key figures who have contributed to the success of recent years, while six new members join the team for the 2025-2028 term.
Capralos expressed his gratitude after being re-elected: “It is a great honor to receive your support. I am very grateful for your confidence and we have a lot ahead of us. This is a special moment for European sport, for what you can do for our National Olympic Committees, our athletes and even for Europe itself.”
SPYROS CAPRALOS, AN ESTABLISHED LEADER
Spyros Capralos, a native of Greece, has an outstanding track record in sports and business. A former Olympic water polo athlete, he represented Greece at the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. He has also held important positions as President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). His experience in sports management and his commitment to the development of European sport have established him as a respected leader in the Olympic field.
Under his leadership, the EOC has driven key initiatives, such as the recovery of sport after the COVID-19 pandemic and the organization of high-level events such as the European Games. His strategic vision has been instrumental in strengthening the foundations of sport in Europe.
A NEW ERA FOR EUROPEAN SPORT
The EOC also paid tribute to the outgoing members of the Executive Committee, highlighting their role in the revival of European sport and the creation of the European Games. In addition, the work of Raffaele Pagnozzi as Secretary General, who leaves a significant legacy after nearly two decades in office, was recognized.
New members of the Executive Committee include Victoria Cabezas (Spain), Annamarie Phelps (Great Britain) and Franjo Bobinac (Slovenia). Also, Hasan Arat was appointed Ex-Officio member in connection with the Istanbul 2027 European Games, while Alistair Brownlee and Gunilla Lindberg will continue in their roles as Ex-Officio members.

With a renewed team and a clear vision, Spyros Capralos and the EOC Executive Committee will work to strengthen European sport, promote gender equality and ensure the success of key events such as the European Games.
