The International Cycling Union announced the sentence for Colombian Miguel Ángel López for the Ilex case, in which he is accused of violating anti-doping rules. The nicknamed “Superman” seems to have found his kryptonite, since the UCI made his suspension official until 2027. Of course, he still has a month to appeal the decision.

“The Court has found Miguel Ángel López guilty of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) for use and possession of a prohibited substance (Menotropin), concomitantly with the 2022 Giro d’Italia, and has imposed a four-year suspension on the rider. “, published the UCI after the ruling of its Anti-Doping Court.

It is a new turn in the case of López, who at the beginning of May had received the news that the Court of Arbitration for Sports (TAS) declared him innocent of the accusations in the framework of the Ilex Case. However, the UCI declared otherwise and the Colombian will be out of competition for the next few years.

For his part, López expressed his dissatisfaction with the sentence and stated that he will appeal. “Today I have been informed about the decision of the UCI and the sanction of suspension for four years. I deeply disagree with it, understanding that it differs from the previous decisions made by the Spanish courts and the CAS itself, I insist on maintaining the existence of an infraction based on the interpretation of conversations that were biased and manipulated,” Superman posted.

“I understand that the infraction is non-existent and the sanction unjustified. I will immediately appeal to the UCI and defend my innocence as I have always done, I hope to return to the competitive world of cycling,” added the Colombian.
