The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have signed a four-year broadcast agreement to provide unprecedented access to major national team basketball events across Europe. Starting in November 2025, fans will be able to enjoy live coverage of men’s and women’s national team matches through television, radio, and digital platforms of 19 EBU members, including countries like Spain, Belgium, Turkey, and Finland, among others.

The agreement guarantees free live broadcasts of all national team games in EBU member countries. This includes qualification matches for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, FIBA EuroBasket 2029, and the Olympic qualifying tournaments for both men’s and women’s basketball. Additionally, key group-stage matchups, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of major tournaments will also be available for viewers.

Frank Leenders, FIBA’s Director General of Media & Marketing Services, expressed his excitement about the agreement, highlighting basketball’s continuous growth on a global scale and the key role of the EBU in increasing the sport’s reach in Europe. “This collaboration reinforces the growing popularity of basketball, delivering more games and exciting action for both existing fans and new audiences,” he said.

Adrian Fikentscher, EBU’s Director of Acquisitions, Sales, and Partnerships, emphasized the importance of the deal in making basketball more accessible. According to Fikentscher, EBU’s commitment is to ensure that the sport reaches the largest possible audience, thus strengthening its relevance on the European sports scene.

This strategic partnership between FIBA, EBU, and DAZN reflects the growing cultural and sporting significance of national team basketball in Europe. With an impressive track record of drawing large audiences for prime-time television, this new chapter promises to elevate European basketball to new levels of visibility and popularity.
