The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF – International Weightlifting Federation) announced the four athletes who will be part of its Refugee Team for the discipline’s competitions in 2024.
Those selected are the Iranian Parisa Jahanfekrian, a refugee in Germany; Brazilians Aline de Souza and Monique Araujo, both residents of the United States; and the Cuban Addriel García, living in Italy, were the four members of the Refugee Team for this year.
To be chosen, athletes had to pass through the IWF’s selection criteria, including being officially recognized as refugees by the UN.
These four athletes announced by the International Weightlifting Federation will be able to participate in IWF competitions, but are not part of the Olympic qualification system for Paris 2024. This condition of being members of the Refugee Team lasts until the World Weightlifting Championships in Manama, Bahrain, to be held in December of this year.
