The Mediterranean Triathlon Federation -MedTF- will establish its permanent headquarters in Lefkimmi, within the municipality of South Corfu, Greece. The decision will provide the organisation with a stable administrative and operational base from which to coordinate its activities, strengthen cooperation among its national federations and prepare new projects for the development of triathlon across the Mediterranean region.
The headquarters will be formally established during the MedTF General Assembly, which will take place in South Corfu on 17 October 2026. Representatives of member federations, international sports officials and institutional guests will attend the meeting to define the organisation’s next priorities and officially recognise Lefkimmi’s new role within its structure.
A permanent base for Mediterranean coordination
The headquarters will provide continuity for work previously conducted through assemblies, congresses and competitions hosted by different countries. Alongside centralising administrative duties, it will serve as a meeting point where federations can exchange knowledge and good practices and develop activities for athletes, coaches, technical officials and young people involved in triathlon.
The Mayor of South Corfu, Ioannis Kavvadias, described the decision as “important international recognition” for the municipality. “Lefkimmi is becoming a Mediterranean centre for triathlon administration and decision-making, creating new opportunities for sport, international engagement and local development. The Municipality of South Corfu will actively support this important new partnership,” he said.
Meetings, education and the development of sports tourism
The federation’s permanent presence will allow it to organise meetings, educational programmes and other activities involving international participants. The project aims to connect triathlon with sports tourism, education and local organisations, although its eventual reach will depend on the programme developed by the MedTF and the municipality after the headquarters opens. Hosting competitions is also among the future possibilities, but no specific event calendar has yet been announced.
Federation President George A. Yerolimpos said the agreement was intended to extend beyond the establishment of an administrative office. “Our ambition is to make South Corfu a genuine point of reference for triathlon, education, international cooperation and sports tourism throughout the Mediterranean,” he explained. The headquarters will provide a platform for collaboration between member federations and the organisation’s international partners.
A new phase of year-round activity
The General Assembly in October will formally open this new phase and help define the first projects connected to the headquarters. Alongside discussing the federation’s priorities and future development, the meeting will recognise Lefkimmi as its new permanent base and a meeting point for Mediterranean triathlon officials.
The MedTF already combines competition with institutional cooperation. In 2024, Salini, Malta, hosted the Europe Triathlon Mediterranean Championships and a federation congress. In 2025, its representatives met again during the World Triathlon Mediterranean Championships in Taranto, Italy. The Lefkimmi headquarters will now provide a permanent location from which these initiatives can be prepared and followed up between editions.
