The International Surfing Association (ISA) has confirmed Saint Lucia as its 117th national federation member. The island nation becomes the 11th ISA member in the Caribbean region, reflecting the continued global expansion of surfing.
Situated on an island with 158 km of pristine coastline, the Saint Lucia Surfing Association (SLSA) is committed to developing talented surfers, promoting competitive excellence, and advocating for sustainable practices to protect its coastal resources.
With the support of the ISA, the SLSA aims to establish itself as a leading surf team in the Caribbean by fostering talent, promoting environmental awareness, and creating opportunities for surfers of all ages.
A wave-rich powerhouse
ISA President Fernando Aguerre stated: “It is so exciting to welcome the beautiful nation of Saint Lucia into the ISA. The growth of surfing throughout the Caribbean has been wonderful to see, especially in such a wave-rich region that offers so many opportunities for surfers across generations and disciplines.”
Meanwhile, SLSA President Shaid Frank Ambler emphasized: “Saint Lucia’s acceptance into the International Surfing Association marks a historic milestone for the island, signifying its official entry onto the global surfing stage. Becoming an ISA member opens new doors for local surfers, coaches, and enthusiasts, ensuring the growth and sustainability of surfing in Saint Lucia.”
Saint Lucia’s inclusion in the ISA comes at a pivotal moment, as the island prepares to send its first-ever junior national team to the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship this year. This symbolic debut highlights the potential of young Saint Lucian surfers and the country’s commitment to excellence in the sport.
