The Portuguese city of Guimaraes is already prepared to host the 29th World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships, the official venue of the tournament will be the Pavilhao Multiuso, a place that in 2018 and 2022 hosted the World Aerobic Gymnastics Championships. From September 19 to 22, Portugal will be the center of attention in the world of gymnastics.
During this edition the acrobatic gymnasts will compete for the 15 world titles at stake and they will do so performing in one of the five categories: Male couple, female couple, mixed couple, female group of three gymnasts and male group with four gymnasts. Within these categories we can find three different routines: a balance exercise that prioritizes handstands and pyramids, a dynamic routine that emphasizes jumps and turns, and a combined routine of both.
In 2022 the last world champions in this discipline were crowned and since then eight World Cup events and five continental championships have been held, leaving us with many interesting names for this World Championship.
The group of local girls, made up of Carolina Marques, Joana Pinto and Eduarda Portela want to take away the undefeated record, which they maintained during the World Cup, from the Belgian trio made up of Sofie Jaeken, Mirte Vercauteren and Lauren Verbrugghe. In the mixed pairs, Azerbaijan’s established stars Reziya Seyedli and Aghasif Rahimov will face the leaders of the new generation, the Ukrainian pair of Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska and Ivan Labunets.
Despite all the accolades they have, the title of world champions has been elusive for the experienced Israeli group of O Abraham, Rotem Amihai, Lior Borodin and Tomer Offir, and they have their eyes fixed on gold in Guimaraes.
There are 31 countries that will participate in this World Championship, which will also have qualification for the Chengdu World Games at stake, which will take place in August 2025 in China.
