With the arrival of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has partnered with the French Development Agency (AFD) to try to give more visibility to sport as a key driver for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Combating youth crime in Asia and improving skills development and livelihoods in Africa are some of the initiatives being promoted. All this comes with a total investment of two million euros to fund both projects.

The initiative will support thousands of vulnerable young people and provide capacity-building and outreach opportunities for sports and criminal justice organizations to enhance their ability to deliver effective sports and youth crime prevention programs.

This also strengthens the partnership between the IOC and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, leveraging sport to prevent violence and promote peace. The IOC’s partnership with the AFD aligns with the Olympism365 strategy, which aims to amplify the impact of the Olympic Movement with the UN SDGs through Recommendation 10 of the Olympic Agenda 2020+5.

This collaboration aims to foster collective action and innovation among organizations within and outside the Olympic Movement, harnessing the potential of sport as a force for good. Additionally, they are also working together to extend Paris 2024 beyond France.
