The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has taken a significant step toward strengthening its connection with athletes by announcing the creation of a specialized task force. This decision was made by the Executive Board during a meeting held on January 2, 2025, marking a milestone in its commitment to player welfare and representation.

The announcement comes amid growing interest in ensuring an inclusive and respectful environment within table tennis. The ITTF emphasized its determination to foster open dialogue among athletes, coaches, and other key stakeholders to build a more cohesive community.

A PLATFORM FOR CHANGE

The task force will focus on gathering players’ feedback and evaluating current regulations. To this end, extensive consultations with athletes, their technical teams, and ITTF bodies are planned. Additionally, a Players’ Forum will be organized during the WTT Singapore Smash 2025, scheduled from January 30 to February 9, providing a platform to discuss concerns and proposals.

Notable members of the task force include Sharath Kamal Achanta, Co-Chair of the ITTF Athletes Commission; Dr. Alaa Meshref and Wahid Oshodi, ITTF Executive Vice Presidents; Mounir Bessah, WTT Executive Director of Events; and Polona Cehovin, WTT Director of Player Relations. Their findings and recommendations will be presented following the Singapore Smash 2025, outlining the next steps toward better athlete integration and well-being.
