The new era for Europe Triathlon after the Istanbul Congress

The Europe Triathlon 2025 General Elective Congress, held at the end of March in Istanbul, Turkey, marked the beginning of a new era for the future of triathlon in Europe. This event brought together the European triathlon community for a key weekend full of connection, celebration and transformation, generously hosted by the Turkish Triathlon Federation.

ELECTIONS 2025 FOR EUROPEAN TRIATHLON

During the Annual General Assembly, the National Federations elected a new leadership team that will guide Europe Triathlon into an era of innovation, inclusion and sustainability. Marc D’hooge of Luxembourg was elected as the new president, succeeding Renato Bertrandi after 12 years.

“It is an honor to have been unanimously elected as the next president of Europe Triathlon and to lead the organization for the next four years at such a crucial time,” said D’hooge. He also expressed his respect and gratitude to his predecessor, highlighting his dedication and commitment to the success of the Confederation.

NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM

The new executive team consists of:

  • President: Marc D’hooge (Luxembourg)
  • Vice Presidents: Herwig Grabner (Austria), Alan Ryan (Ireland)
  • Treasurer: Kaisa Tamminen (Finland)
  • Executive Committee members: Laurence De Jaeghere (France), Jorge García Martínez (Spain), Sara Heath (Great Britain), Vlad Stoica (Romania) and Bayram Yalçınkaya (Turkey).

The new leadership seeks to modernize operations, increase athlete and event visibility, and strengthen ties with World Triathlon, National Federations and commercial partners.

COMMITTEES FOR GROWTH AND EXCELLENCE

The Assembly also elected the members of Europe Triathlon’s committees in charge of specific areas of development:

  • Technical Committee: Holger Wackerhage (GER), Sandrine Crosnier (FRA), Gyorgyi Bazso-Bodnar (HUN), Mustafa Şirin (TUR), Istvan Beseneyi (ROU), Esther Sanchez Arribas (ESP), Sarah Taylor (GBR).
  • Development Committee: Valerie Maier (ISL), Mitja Mori (SLO), Anna Grealish (IRL), Ljudmila Medan (SRB), Reinout Van Schuylenbergh (BEL), Mario Mola Diaz (ESP), Hüseyin Onur Aydemir (TUR).
  • Women’s Committee: Jana Škanderová (SVK), Non Stanford (GBR), Maxine Strain (IRL), Mafalda Barata (POR).
  • Audit Committee: Alicia García Pérez (ESP), Remko Renes (NED), Pedro Ventaneira (POR).

GRATITUDE GALA AND AWARDS

Friday’s gala dinner was a time of celebration and transition. Renato Bertrandi was honored for his 12 years of leadership and the Europe Triathlon 2024 Awards were presented, recognizing outstanding athletes, National Federations, technical officials and event organizers.

  • Developing National Federation of the Year: Malta
  • National Federation of the Year: Portugal
  • Technical Official of the Year: Line Amlund Hagen (Women’s) and Howard Vine (Men’s)
  • Event of the Year: Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships Coimbra
  • Athlete of the Year: Cassandre Beaugrand (Women) and Alex Yee (Men)
  • For Athlete of the Year: Anja Renner (Women) and Alexis Hanquinquant (Men)
  • Executive Committee Award: Javier Gómez Noya and Alistair Brownlee
