2024 will be a year that will mark the history of the traditional Berlin Marathon. The contest that runs through the German streets celebrates its 50th edition with big names and record attendance for the race that will take place on Friday, September 29, celebrating fifty since its beginning in 1974.

Berlin is the marathon where the most world records have been achieved. And although in the preview we cannot promise times that will go down in history, what will remain in the pages of the event will be the number of registered participants, since the organization expects more than 50,000 runners competing in the German city, the largest number great in its 50 years of life.

As for the big names, this will be the first time in 10 years that the marathon does not have Kenenisa Bekele or Eliud Kipchoge, who in Paris 2024 could not finish the race. Of course, the organization still guarantees a spectacle. In fact, although Kipchoge will not be there, last year’s third and fourth place finishers, Ethiopian Tadese Takele (2:03:24) and Kenyan Ronald Korir (2:04:22), respectively, will be there.

In addition, there will be a group of competitors whose times are under 2:05:00. Those mentioned above are included in this list that also has the half marathon world record holder, the Kenyan Kibiwott Kandie (2:04:48); his compatriot Cybrian Kotut (2:04:34) and the Ethiopians Hailemaryam Kiros (2:04:41) and Bazeze Asmare (2:04:57).

In the women’s field there will also be big names who have made great marks in the history of marathons among women. The Ethiopian Tigist Ketema (2:16:07) and the Kenyan Rosemary Wanjiru (2:16:14) are some of them. In addition, the organization confirmed the presence of Genzebe Dibaba (2:18:05), former 1,500 meter world record holder and former 2014 Laureus World Athlete of the Year.
