The Paris 2024 olympic football draw reveals what the matchups will be

The highly anticipated draw for the men’s and women’s football tournaments at the 2024 Paris Olympics took place on Wednesday, March 20th, setting the stage for thrilling competition at the global sporting event.

Women’s Tournament Groups

In the women’s competition, the 12 qualified teams were divided into three groups:

– Group A: France, Canada, Colombia, New Zealand

– Group B: United States, Germany, Australia, African qualifier 2

– Group C: Spain, Japan, Brazil, African qualifier 1

Defending champions Canada will face a tough test in Group A, while the USWNT will look to regain their olympic glory in a challenging Group B. Spain, the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champions, headline Group C alongside Brazil. 

Men’s Tournament Groups

The 16 men’s teams were drawn into four groups:

– Group A: France, New Zealand, United States, AFC-CAF playoff winner

– Group B: Argentina, Morocco, AFC qualifier 3, Ukraine

– Group C: AFC qualifier 2, Spain, Egypt, Dominican Republic

– Group D: AFC qualifier 1, Paraguay, Mali, Israel

Hosts France will aim to win their first olympic men’s football gold since 1984, while the USMNT will face a tough path out of Group A. Argentina and Spain headline Groups B and C respectively, setting up the potential for some mouthwatering clashes. 

The olympic football tournaments will kick off on July 24th for the men’s event and July 25th for the women’s, with the finals scheduled for August 9th and 10th respectively. Fans around the world will be eagerly anticipating the start of the action in Paris, as the world’s best players compete for the prestigious olympic title.
