Jannik Sinner will not be suspended from the courts due to the positive result he gave in March at the Indian Wells Masters 1,000. The world number 1 showed adverse analytical results due to an anabolic steroid found in his tests in the tournament in which he reached the semifinals.
This is because an independent tribunal of the Tennis Integrity Unit (ITIA) determined that Sinner had low levels of the steroid due to having accidentally ingested it. According to the investigation in which the tennis player himself collaborated, it was due to a spray that a member of his team applied to him to treat an injury between March 5 and 13.
Sinner’s appeal, in addition to his full cooperation in the investigation, were beneficial for the tennis player, who will only lose the money won during the tournament and also the points received in the competition. Of course, the decision could still be appealed by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Italian Anti-Doping Agency.
After learning of the determination, Sinner issued a statement making the situation public.
