The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place on Sunday 11 August. The Stade de France in Saint-Denis will host a two-and-a-half hour ceremony full of surprises from 21:00 to 23:30. Many details are being kept under wraps, but what is known is that it will look back at the history of the Games and feature performances by world-famous acrobats, dancers and singers.

The artistic direction of the ceremony is in the hands of Thomas Jolly, who also directed the opening ceremony. “Records” is the name of the show, which promises to take viewers on an immersive journey through time, from the origins of the Olympic Games to a dystopian future where the Games have disappeared and must be reinvented.

The closing ceremony is intended to include “travellers from another space-time” who will discover the remains of Olympism and reconstruct the Olympic rings. Around 100 dancers and acrobats, including Arthur Cadre, will take centre stage. French bands Air and Phoenix will also perform, as well as the much-anticipated Beyoncé, but this has not been confirmed.

Tom Cruise will also rappel down the Stade de France to symbolise the transfer of the Olympic flag between Paris and Los Angeles, the next host city for the 2028 Olympic Games. Thierry Reboul, executive director of the ceremonies says that “the positive reviews of the opening ceremony far outweigh the few negative ones” and that the closing ceremony will go ahead as planned with plenty of surprises.
