The Pan American Canoe Federation (COPAC) has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing the technical quality of the sport in the region. As the Olympic cycle begins, COPAC has announced a speed canoeing development course for coaches, designed to strengthen capabilities at all levels. This online course, lasting four months, will run from March 4 to July 19, followed by an in-person internship lasting seven to ten days.
The course is designed for coaches with varying levels of experience, from beginners to advanced, and will offer a comprehensive program focused on updating institutional technical guidelines. With sustainability and gender equality as key themes, interested coaches can apply through their National Federations, which must ensure gender balance in the registration process. The program will be taught in Spanish, with 64 hours of online classes distributed over two weekly sessions and a cost of $400, plus transportation and accommodation expenses for the in-person internship.
COURSE OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT
The course will cover a wide range of key topics for the technical development of coaches, including an introduction to canoeing, training physiology, and the systematization of training. Additionally, it will focus on technical development models for both kayaking and canoeing.
COPAC will initially offer 20 spots for coaches, with the possibility of opening future editions depending on demand. This course is a valuable opportunity for regional coaches looking to improve their skills and contribute to the growth of canoeing in the Americas.
