In an event held in Lausanne, Switzerland, the city where the headquarters of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) is located and with the presence of great world exponents of this discipline, the Volleyball Foundation was inaugurated, an organization that wants to connect, serve and inspire to the world with this sport.
The launch ceremony included various activities, including a special charity auction organized by the Piguet Auction House. The items on display, donated by the FIVB and sports legends, raised more than $66,000. This amount was added to the donations made by the FIVB, the CVC Foundation, members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the president of Volleyball Australia, achieving a total of approximately $630,000 dollars to promote this organization.
“The Foundation is dedicated to creating a world where everyone has access to sport, regardless of gender, age, origin or position. Where they have the opportunity to be healthy and active. To experience the pleasures of volleyball. And learn important skills that will be useful throughout their lives”, these were some of the words issued by Ary Graça, President of the FIVB and the Volleyball Foundation.
Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, had nothing but words of praise for this initiative. “Through this project, volleyball can really contribute to transmitting the Olympic values and making the world a better place through sport.”
The Volleyball Foundation has already started its first pilot projects, such as the Brahmaputra Volleyball League in Assam, India, in which more than 10,000 children could participate, and the Githurai Kimbo Volleyball Academy in Nairobi, Kenya. The Foundation aims to expand the sport to 800 million people in 222 countries.
The Volleyball Foundation will be sponsored by globally recognized organizations such as Decathlon, Qatar Foundation, Mikasa, Generations for Peace and the Jordan Olympic Committee.
