The World Athletics Indoor Tour is set to write a new chapter in the history of indoor athletics. The 2026 season will bring an unprecedented calendar, with nearly 80 meetings confirmed across three continents, establishing the circuit as the backbone of winter athletics. Less than three months before the first Gold-level competition begins, the organization has unveiled an itinerary spanning 24 countries, with the promise of connecting cultures, talents, and audiences through the shared passion for sport.
Since its launch in 2020 with just seven meetings, the circuit has experienced explosive growth that reflects the global expansion of the discipline. The upcoming tour will kick off on December 13 in Bucharest, Romania (Challenger category) and conclude on March 12 in Uppsala, Sweden (Silver). But it will be between January and February when the spotlight shines brightest, as the eight Gold-level meetings—from Boston to Toruń—bring together the world’s top indoor track and field athletes.
A golden calendar setting the pace for the season
The Gold series of the World Indoor Tour 2026 will combine tradition, innovation, and excitement. Boston will open the season on January 24 with the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, followed by the iconic Millrose Games in New York and the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava. They will be joined by Madrid, Karlsruhe, Belgrade, and Liévin, before concluding on February 22 with the ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Toruń, Poland. This final stop, at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Torun, will serve as the perfect prelude to the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26, where many of the tour’s leading athletes will aim to extend their golden season.
Each Gold meeting will not only showcase world-class talent but also offer an opportunity for athletes to earn points and significant prizes. With at least 7,000 US dollars per individual discipline, the tour stands as a premier competitive platform and a meeting point between established stars and the next generation of indoor athletics.
Discipline, scoring, and reward: the essence of the Tour
The tour’s scoring system has become a key element in maintaining excitement throughout the season. In 2026, the scoring disciplines will rotate once again: women will compete in the 400m, 1500m, 60m hurdles, high jump, and long jump; while men will take on the 60m, 800m, 3000m/5000m, pole vault, triple jump, and shot put. Consistency will be crucial, as only the three best results will count toward each athlete’s overall ranking.
The athlete with the highest score in each discipline will receive not only a 10,000 US dollar prize but also a wildcard entry to the World Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26. This incentive strengthens the link between the circuit and the world championship, establishing a competitive pathway that rewards sustained excellence, commitment, and the ability to shine on every indoor track around the globe.
