The coastal city of Wollongong, in New South Wales, Australia, will be the epicenter of world triathlon on October 18, 2025, when it simultaneously hosts the World Triathlon Championship Finals and a new stop of the T100 Triathlon World Tour. This was announced by World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO), marking a new milestone in the collaboration between the two entities. The top 20 professional triathletes in the world, both men and women, will compete in this key date on the international calendar.

The inclusion of the T100 series in the Finals program represents a significant boost for the global development of triathlon, uniting the best exponents of short and long distance in one place. For Australian pro Ashleigh Gentle, currently sixth in the T100 Race to Qatar, competing at home will be a privilege: “Wollongong is a fantastic venue for triathlon,” she said. In addition to the elite races, the event will offer a full experience with 13 races over four days, including U23, junior, paratriathlon, age-group categories, and a community triathlon with more than 6,700 participants.

A historic event that boosts sport and the region

This announcement comes after the decision to postpone the T100 Triathlon in Lake Las Vegas —originally scheduled for October 2025— to 2026, due to adjustments in the course that will include the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. To fulfill the commitment to hold nine professional events this season, the PTO moved the race to Wollongong, integrating it into the World Championship Finals and ensuring a top-level sporting spectacle.

The scale of the event promises an atmosphere like no other for athletes and fans, with more than 15,000 spectators expected on the Australian coast. The partnership between AusTriathlon, Destination NSW, Elite Energy, and the Wollongong City Council also ensures a positive impact beyond sport, promoting economic, social, and environmental benefits for the region. As Antonio Arimany, president of World Triathlon, highlighted, this gathering “will be a true showcase of the best in triathlon” and will further cement Wollongong’s position as a world-class sports destination.
