The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has revealed the entries for the 2024 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters. In this Paralympic year, the world’s top wheelchair tennis players will compete in Arnhem, Netherlands, from November 11 to 17, marking the first time this prestigious event is held in the city.

First held in 1994, the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters is the ITF’s year-end championship, bringing together the top eight male, female, and quad singles players in the world. Meanwhile, the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters, which began in 2000, is the ITF’s flagship doubles event, featuring eight men’s doubles teams, six women’s doubles teams, and four quad doubles pairs.

Among the stars competing are Paris 2024 Paralympic medalists, such as Tokito Oda, Alfie Hewett, and Niels Vink, who will be aiming for titles in the men’s, women’s, and quad divisions.

Due to the injury absence of Diede de Groot, the reigning NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters champion in the women’s category, Yui Kamiji, gold medalist in singles and doubles at Paris 2024 and currently ranked No. 2 in the world, is determined to claim the title this year. However, she will face stiff competition from former Masters champions Aniek van Koot and Jiske Griffioen. Kamiji remains the only non-Dutch player to have won the women’s singles title at the year-end championship of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, after her victory in 2013.

ITF President David Haggerty commented: “As we look ahead to the 2024 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters in Arnhem, we are delighted to celebrate the pinnacle of wheelchair tennis in this Paralympic year. We extend our heartfelt thanks to NEC for their unwavering support, which began 30 years ago in 1994, as well as to UNIQLO for their continued dedication. I would also like to express my gratitude to the KNLTB for their essential support in organizing this prestigious competition. With the top men’s, women’s, and quad singles players competing, we can look forward to an exciting lineup of matches showcasing the world-class skills and talents of these players. Our elite athletes, including Paralympic medalists, will return to the court to defend their titles and continue to inspire future generations.”
