The International Cricket Council -ICC- has confirmed that the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will be the first edition in history where every match will be overseen by an all-women panel of umpires and match referees. The 13th edition of the tournament will take place in India from September 30 to November 2, bringing together the world’s top national teams in the 50-over format.
The officiating panel, made up of 14 umpires and 4 match referees from 10 different nationalities, highlights the diversity and global reach of the event. This milestone is a historic moment for women’s cricket and reinforces the governing body’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity in sport.
Emirates welcomes the officiating delegation in Dubai
Before their journey to India and Sri Lanka, the officials were hosted at Emirates Group Headquarters in Dubai. The airline, a global partner of the International Cricket Council -ICC-, will transport the panel to the competition, as part of a long-standing partnership that has spanned more than three decades.
During the reception, Boutros Boutros, Emirates’ Executive Vice President for Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand, said: “As the Official Airline Partner of the ICC, we are proud to support the first all-women team of match officials who will preside over the games in this important tournament. It is an event that celebrates gender equity and equal opportunity both on and off the field.”
Global significance of the tournament
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has become one of the most prestigious competitions on the women’s sporting calendar. The 2025 edition will bring together the strongest cricketing nations and attract millions of fans worldwide, further boosting the growth of the game and the visibility of female players and officials.
The introduction of an all-women officiating panel represents a major step forward in recognizing women across all areas of cricket, from on-field performance to leadership and officiating roles.
A commitment to the future of women’s cricket
The collaboration between the ICC and Emirates also extends to initiatives such as the 100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme, which is designed to provide training and mentorship opportunities to future female leaders in the sport. This programme aims to ensure that the current momentum towards gender equality is sustained for years to come.
In addition to being the ICC’s official airline partner, Emirates is present at major international tournaments including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship Final, where its branding is visible across kits, logistics and global communication campaigns.
