Letsile Tebogo has been announced as the ambassador for World Athletics’ Kids’ Athletics program, a global initiative aimed at inspiring children worldwide to stay active through athletics. At just 21 years old, Tebogo has left an indelible mark on the sport’s history with his victory in the 200 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clocking an impressive time of 19.46 seconds, making him the fifth-fastest man in history at this distance.

Aware of the impact his figure can have on younger generations, Tebogo has committed to using his platform to foster a love for athletics, promoting values such as fun, physical activity, and personal growth. “Athletics has given me many opportunities, and I want to inspire young people to believe in themselves, dream big, and enjoy the sport,” said the sprinter. His involvement in the Kids’ Athletics program aims to bring the sport closer to more children, helping them develop skills both on and off the track.

AN INCLUSIVE INITIATIVE

As part of his role as ambassador, Tebogo will participate in the Relay Around the World Challenge, an event leading up to the celebration of Kids’ Athletics Day 2025, scheduled for May 7. This activity aims to encourage children to participate in athletics and promote physical exercise in a fun and inclusive environment. Inspired by the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, this challenge represents the largest Kids’ Athletics participation initiative to date.

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe emphasized the importance of having athletes like Tebogo in these programs: “I am pleased to see talents like Letsile Tebogo emerging within our competitive structures. His confidence, determination, and humility are inspiring an entire generation of young athletes and children who are learning to incorporate sport into their daily lives.” With initiatives like this, World Athletics aims to expand the reach of athletics and promote active lifestyles among young children, ensuring the future of the sport.
