World Rugby has published its first Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. This report underscores the organization’s commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and governance excellence, reinforcing rugby’s role as a force for good. Among the key achievements are the organization’s first certified carbon footprint and a report on the impact of climate change on the sport.

Strategic partnerships with organizations such as ChildFund Rugby, Capgemini, and Gallagher have strengthened rugby’s social and legacy programs, making the sport more inclusive and accessible. Additionally, World Rugby has been recognized as one of the best-governed sports bodies internationally, with increased female representation in its decision-making structures.

PROGRESS IN SUSTAINABILITY AND GOVERNANCE

World Rugby’s sustainability report highlights the implementation of a sustainable procurement framework and the creation of tools such as the “Rugby for Nature” kit to help clubs protect the environment. The organization has also participated in regional sustainability workshops and collaborated with the international community through initiatives like “Sports for Climate Action” and “Sports for Nature.” On the social front, £1.3 million has been raised through ChildFund Rugby, benefiting over 76,000 children, and forums have been organized to promote female leadership in rugby.

Good governance remains a key pillar for World Rugby, with increased female representation on the Council and Executive Committee. President Dr. Brett Robinson emphasized that this report not only celebrates achievements but also serves as a reminder of the work ahead to ensure a resilient and sustainable future for the sport. With these advancements, World Rugby positions itself as a leader in driving positive change through sport.
